Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

Spotlight

Black Sesame OilBlack sesame oil contains antioxidants that fight free radicals (unstable molecules that can harm the skin).

It also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties meaning it has the potential to stop the growth of harmful microorganisms and reduce inflammation and swelling. In addition, it does not have many comedogenic properties meaning that it won’t easily clog your pores when you use it on your face.

Blackcurrant Seed Oil – My research showed me that blackcurrant seed oil contains something called gamma linolenic acid which is a highly effective anti-inflammatory fatty acid.

Blackcurrant seed oil also contains stearidonic acid, an Omega-3 fatty acid, in addition to other Omega-3’s and Omega-6’s.

Jojoba Seed Oil – Probably the most recognisable ingredient on this list. We all know jojoba oil for its moisturising properties but it also helps to retain the moisture on our skin.

Jojoba oil is the oil that is closest to our skins natural sebum, so it’s great for regulating oil production on our faces and our scalps.

Along with these properties jojoba oil also has a host of other benefits such as being rich in antioxidants, it helps to heal wounds, it helps reduce sunburn, it can be used for its anti-aging properties and it also helps fade the appearance of scars.

How I use it

I use this product at night as the first step in my double cleanse. Using 1-2 pumps of this oil cleanser, I massage it around my dry face and neck to break down makeup and other oil based impurities. I make sure I get the eye area too as this is where I wear concealer which I want to remove at the end of the day.

After about 30 seconds of massaging this product around my face, I wet it to emulsify and continue to cleanse my face for another 30 seconds. I then rinse my face thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat it dry.

My thoughts

One of the first things that comes to mind about this oil is how lush and thick it feels and how easy it is to massage around my face in order to soften my makeup before my second cleanse.

It has a very mild scent which dissipates when you apply it to your face.

After I rinse my face and pat it dry, I notice that the ingredients in this oil cleanser do a great job of softening and bringing moisture to my face. This is great because the last thing I need is a cleanser which makes my face dry.

However, I have noticed that after rinsing my face, there always seems to be a film of oil left on my skin. Shouldn’t it all wash away when I rinse my face? Luckily I follow this cleanser with a second cleanse but I would like this cleanser to wash off by itself and leave no residue.

If you compare this oil cleanser to the Banila Co’s balm cleansers, the Banila Co cleansers massage around your face beautifully and fully wash off after you rinse them, even if you forget to emulsify.

The light film of oil left on my skin by the Klairs oil cleanser is a con for me but fortunately I can wash it off with my second cleanser. However, I wish this oil would wash off my face fully. I actually might switch back to one of Banila Co’s balm cleansers or another oil cleanser that has worked for me in the past.

I have ‘normal’ skin but the issues I have with this cleanser may not happen to you if you have dry skin. Like I said, this oil cleanser does not strip my face but adds moisture, so this may provide an adequate amount of moisture for other skin types. It may be that this oil is too rich for my skin.

A little disappointed because everything else I use from Klairs is fantastic but I guess you can’t win everything.

Where to buy?

I bought my Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil in Gangnam, South Korea. I recently learnt that the skin care and make up shop Chicor, based in Gangnam, sells Klairs products which is great because I’ve always wanted to try Klairs products and now I can.

However, if you don’t have access to a Chicor where you live, here are some links to online retailers. Like always, make sure you check that these retailers ship to your country.

Good luck shopping and have a great day.
