Life comes in seasons and currently I feel like I am in a low one.
I’ve been feeling an overwhelming sense of nostalgia this week for a time in the past when I felt things were going better, there were more opportunities, there was more growth and just more overall enjoyment.
However…
I do feel like the person I am today is the most evolved version of myself, the most emotionally mature I’ve ever been and the most self-aware I’ve ever been. So even though I wouldn’t go back to a younger version of myself, I can try and bring some perspective and positivity to the current version of myself in this low season I am experiencing.
To get there, I wrote an achievements list of everything I have done and achieved up to now and this is how it helped with my motivation levels, outlook and overall positivity.
How it went…
- It opened my mind up to gratitude about what I have now and reminded me of the brave and amazing things I’ve done to get here.
- Reminded me about the type of person I am – someone who wants to live a life that she loves and respects and keeps trying to do the best she can to achieve that.
- Taken the pressure off me a little bit – I did all those things in the past, so just because I feel stuck right now doesn’t mean I need to be hard on myself because things aren’t happening. It’s not like I’m not trying. Clearly I have the disposition to grow and achieve. That’s not gone away.
- Reminded me of the privilege I experience in my life.
- Showed me that I have experienced some good in this low season – it’s not all been terrible.
- Even small things, like understanding I have reached an age which is denied to many around the world.
- Reminded me to keep scheduling meetings and activities that help me to get to where I want to be and help me to experience happiness.
- Reminded me of the great and amazing people in my life – who I should call on more for help.
- Shown me that I do have the perseverance to get through this low period.
- It’s shown me how much I have grown over the past 10 years – I have achievements to be proud of and accomplishments that have made me into the person I am today.
That’s what I was able to realise from my list, but your list will be personal to you. So even if it can only provide a small bit of relief and positivity it your life, please go ahead and try. You might remember achievements you have forgotten, which can help remind you of the type of person you are. The aim of the list is to get you into a more positive frame of mind, so go ahead and try it out and I hope you’re feeling more positive soon.
